The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India’s NTPC Limited on Saturday to enhance cooperation and exchange technical expertise in the electricity sector.

The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Energy headquarters in Riyadh in the presence of senior officials, including Assistant Minister of Energy for Electricity Affairs Eng. Nasser Al-Qahtani, Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, and SEC CEO Eng. Khalid AlGhamdi.

The agreement was signed by SEC Executive Vice President of Generation Eng. Abdulrahman AlRehaimi and NTPC General Manager and Head of International Business Development Dr. Jatinder Singh Chandok.

Under the MoU, the two companies will collaborate on power plant operation and maintenance, modernization and development, procurement, engineering services, and project management. The pact also covers joint research and development in advanced energy technologies.

A key component of the agreement is the establishment of a joint venture company to provide power plant services in the Middle East, alongside initiatives for knowledge exchange and investment in new electricity projects.

The partnership aligns with SEC’s strategy to strengthen international collaborations and leverage global expertise to advance the Kingdom’s electricity sector.

SEC is the largest producer, transmitter, and distributor of electric power in the Middle East and North Africa, serving more than 11 million subscribers. NTPC, one of India’s largest state-owned power utilities, operates a diversified portfolio with a generation capacity of around 77,000 megawatts from coal, gas, hydro, wind, and solar sources.
