Solar Energy International (SEI) recently formed a new partnership with Lnotch Africa STEM Initiative to launch the “Solar in Schools – Kenya Chapter” program, bringing hands-on renewable energy education to underserved secondary schools across Kenya.
Led by Lyhane Nidhamu and his team, the initiative will establish solar clubs in schools, provide comprehensive teacher training, and engage students in real-world STEM projects focused on solar energy. The program is expected to reach over 750 students and 20 educators, providing practical experience in renewable energy technology.
“This partnership aligns perfectly with SEI’s Johnny Weiss Solar Energy for All Initiative to make solar education accessible and community-rooted,” said Pia Day, SEI’s Lead Business Development and Growth Manager. “We’re excited to support this initiative that will empower the next generation of renewable energy leaders in Kenya.”
As part of the partnership, SEI will provide:
- One year of free curriculum licensing for SEI’s PV101 and PV203 courses, including mini-lab worksheets and PV301L materials
- Free access to PV101 and PV203 online courses for one instructor to prepare local program leadership
- Complimentary copies of SEI’s “Solar Electric Handbook: Photovoltaic Fundamentals and Applications” ebook
The program represents a significant investment in Kenya’s renewable energy future, combining SEI’s proven educational resources with Lnotch Africa’s deep community connections and local expertise.
“We’re thrilled to partner with SEI to bring solar education directly into Kenyan classrooms. This collaboration bridges global expertise with local innovation, giving students the tools to not only understand renewable energy but to lead its transformation in their communities. It’s a bold step toward equity in STEM and sustainability,” said Lyhane Nidhamu, program leader at Lnotch Africa STEM Initiative.
The Solar in Schools – Kenya Chapter launched in January 2025.
