ENGIE, a global leader in low-carbon energy and services, has announced the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 100 MW solar photovoltaic project in Barmer, Rajasthan. This agreement marks a significant milestone for ENGIE, strengthening its national renewable energy presence and reaffirming its commitment to supporting India’s energy transition with reliable and sustainable solutions.

The Barmer project, located in one of India’s regions with the highest solar irradiance, is expected to be commissioned in 2027. It represents a strategic addition to ENGIE’s growing portfolio in Rajasthan, which now approaches a total capacity of 1 GW. The region’s ideal site conditions and strong infrastructure connectivity make it a key area for utility-scale solar development, while the project further strengthens ENGIE’s longstanding partnership with SECI. It builds on the company’s proven track record of delivering high-impact solar assets across the country.

ENGIE has consistently demonstrated excellence in execution through several landmark solar developments in India. The 200 MW Raghnesda Solar Power Plant in Gujarat was successfully commissioned during the height of the pandemic and continues to provide reliable clean energy. The 250 MW Kadapa project in Andhra Pradesh incorporates advanced inverter technology to maximize energy output, while the 140 MW Bhadla project in Rajasthan sets new standards for desert-based solar operations with robotic, water-free cleaning systems.

Amit Jain, CEO and Country Manager, India MD Renewables & Batteries India & South-East Asia, said in a statement, “Our agreement with SECI marks a pivotal chapter in ENGIE’s growing partnership in India and reflects our shared ambition to accelerate the country’s clean energy transition. The Barmer project is focused on delivering dependable solar power to a region where rising energy demand and economic growth go hand in hand. As the grid evolves, our priority is disciplined execution, deep local integration in Rajasthan, and building infrastructure that delivers long-term performance. We are committed to creating enduring value for communities, for the economy, and for India’s energy future.”

Currently, ENGIE’s portfolio in India totals 2.5 GW, spread across 23 renewable energy projects in seven states. With over 300 MW in Rajasthan alone, the company has solidified its position as a major contributor to the state’s clean energy mix. ENGIE’s strategic focus remains centered on leveraging digital intelligence, ensuring operational sustainability, and delivering community-focused benefits. The Barmer project will be executed with the same precision and commitment that define ENGIE’s India strategy, reflecting the company’s continued ambition to expand its renewable footprint and lead India toward a resilient, low-carbon energy future.
