Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC), a leading pure renewable energy company in the Philippines, has once again demonstrated its commitment to the country’s clean energy goals by securing 1,212 MW of renewable energy capacity under the government’s Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP)-4. The award was granted by the Department of Energy (DOE) on 6 November 2025, making CREC one of the largest winners in the latest auction.
The GEAP-4 auction, conducted on 2 September 2025, saw CREC submit bids for multiple ground-mounted solar projects as well as Integrated Renewable Energy and Energy Storage System (IRESS) projects. These projects are spread across several provinces, including Isabela, Batangas, Quezon, and Negros Occidental, further strengthening CREC’s nationwide renewable energy footprint.
Oliver Tan, President and CEO of CREC, stated that participating in the green energy auction underscores the company’s dedication to delivering more renewable energy in alignment with the DOE’s target of achieving 50% renewable energy by 2050. He acknowledged the challenges involved in scaling clean energy projects but emphasized CREC’s readiness to support the government’s objectives.
This latest achievement builds on CREC’s earlier success in the GEAP-2 auction in 2023, where the company secured approximately 916 MWp of solar and onshore wind capacity scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2028. These projects form part of CREC’s ambitious plan to deliver one gigawatt of renewable energy per year over five years, totaling five gigawatts. Notably, projects such as Citicore Solar Batangas 2 in Tuy will be equipped with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), enabling the plants to provide “baseload” power and potentially dispatch renewable energy around the clock.
In addition to project development, CREC strengthened its financial backing in September 2025 by securing a US$55 million loan from Pentagreen Capital to support its ongoing and upcoming projects. Tan highlighted that recent successes, including the energization of solar projects with BESS, serve as proof of concept, reinforcing investor confidence and enabling CREC to advance its ambitious pipeline of gigawatts of renewable energy. Through these initiatives, CREC continues to play a pivotal role in the Philippines’ energy transition, expanding clean energy capacity, integrating storage solutions, and contributing to a more sustainable and reliable electricity system.
