The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has supported the installation of a solar power generation system with battery energy storage at Wat Thai Lumbini in Nepal, aimed at improving the temple’s electricity infrastructure and ensuring reliable power supply.
The solar system was officially handed over on February 28, 2026, during a ceremony marking the enshrinement of a Buddha image on top of the Chaturathit Great Stupa at the temple. Representatives from EGAT, including Deputy Governor for Fuel Thawiwan Danvilai and Deputy Governor for Finance and Accounting (CFO) Somjit Dansriprasert, attended the event along with officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Energy.
The initiative was supported with a budget of 2 million baht from EGAT to upgrade the temple’s existing electrical system and install a solar power plant with a total capacity of 85.4 kW, along with a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 185.2 kWh.
According to EGAT, the project was undertaken after a survey revealed that the temple’s previous electrical wiring system was in poor condition and unable to provide sufficient power.
The newly installed solar system is expected to generate around 124,684 kWh of electricity annually and reduce electricity expenses by approximately 274,305 baht per year, supporting sustainable energy use at the temple.
