Halocell Energy has achieved a notable technology milestone by integrating advanced metal oxide nanoparticle inks from Sofab Inks into its perovskite photovoltaic (PV) modules, significantly improving device stability under challenging conditions.

The innovation focuses on the charge transport layer — a critical interface that governs efficiency and long-term durability in perovskite solar cells. By incorporating Sofab’s proprietary metal oxide materials, Halocell has enhanced charge extraction while strengthening resistance to environmental stress factors such as heat and humidity.

Under accelerated testing conditions (1,000 lux illumination, 85% relative humidity, 65°C), modules with the integrated metal oxide layer maintained nearly 100% normalized efficiency after 1,300 hours. In comparison, devices using conventional charge transport materials showed around 20% efficiency loss after 1,000 hours, with further degradation over time. These results mark a significant step toward addressing one of the key barriers to commercializing perovskite PV — operational stability.

The materials are designed to be compatible with Halocell’s roll-to-roll manufacturing process, supporting scalable production of thin, lightweight, and flexible modules. This aligns with growing demand for applications across indoor IoT devices, wireless sensors, and emerging sectors such as drones and space technologies.

Halocell has begun supplying these modules to selected partners for evaluation, with ongoing efforts focused on scaling to larger formats and broader industrial deployment.
