Plans for what was once proposed as Australia’s largest wind farm have been significantly revised, with the project developer opting to reduce the scale of the wind component while incorporating substantial solar generation and battery energy storage capacity to create a large hybrid renewable energy hub.

The Bulli Creek Renewable Energy Project in Queensland, originally planned with up to 5 GW of wind generation capacity, has been redesigned to feature approximately 1.35 GW of wind power alongside large-scale solar photovoltaic installations and battery energy storage systems. The revised proposal aims to enhance the project’s operational flexibility and commercial viability while supporting Australia’s ongoing energy transition.

The changes reflect evolving market conditions within Australia’s renewable energy sector, where developers are increasingly pursuing hybrid projects that combine multiple generation and storage technologies. By integrating wind, solar, and battery storage, the project is expected to deliver a more consistent power supply and improve grid reliability compared to standalone renewable energy facilities.

According to the revised development plans, the addition of solar generation will complement wind production patterns, while battery storage systems will provide energy shifting capabilities and support grid stability during periods of fluctuating renewable output.
