SolarEdge Nexis home battery storage system

Global smart technology firm SolarEdge Technologies Inc. has announced national order availability in the U.S. for its newest residential solar and storage platform, the SolarEdge Nexis.

Previously launched in Germany, the Nexis system generated “record order volumes,” the firm says, and received strong installer demand. Sporting LEGO-like stackable storage architecture and streamlined installation, the single-phase system became a customer and contractor favorite in Europe.

The new system “addresses longstanding battery storage challenges,” company officials say. Built from the ground up around the system installation experience, the Nexis aims to cut down on long installation times, inflexible placement options, and the need for residential electrical upgrades for batteries.

“SolarEdge Nexis has been our most anticipated residential product launch. It represents years of innovation and customer feedback brought together into a single platform designed to make solar-plus-storage more powerful, more intuitive and easier to deploy,” says Nick Alex, SolarEdge’s VP of residential sales in North America. “With orders now open across the U.S., we’re excited to help installers and homeowners experience a platform designed to simplify installation, maximize flexibility and support the evolving energy needs of modern homes.”

The battery is already designed with DC-optimized architecture, SolarEdge representatives say. The new system boasts a higher power density, as well as high levels of reliability and efficiency in both low and high power hours, the company adds.

Innovating for ease of use

In addition to its LEGO-esque stackable battery architecture, the Nexis battery sports a fleet of new features for ease of installation and use, SolarEdge says. The residential inverter is “ultra-efficient,” the company claims, designed to save homeowners both money and electricity, particularly in low power situations.

The inverter also delivers up to 13 kW on-grid and 14.5 kW off-grid power, and the battery can scale from 5 kWh to 80 kWh. The system is also manufactured solely in the U.S., aiming to help contractors and their projects meet domestic requirements like FEOC restrictions.

Tate Abdon, director of installations at Senga Energy, says that prior to the Nexis’s debut, battery installations “involved a lot of planning and labor,” making for a time-consuming, and therefore funds-consuming, process.

“It wasn’t always the most efficient process. SolarEdge Nexis changes that,” Abdon says. “With the IslandDER option, we can eliminate the need for Backup Loads Panels in many applications, which means less labor, fewer materials, and a much simpler installation. The modular battery design is another huge advantage. Instead of carrying and lifting 300-pound batteries, our crews install lightweight modules with built-in handles; no battery lift required.”

The Nexis also plans to use up to 40% less wall space in the average American home, SolarEdge officials say. The singular inverter platform covers all residential installations from 3.8 kW to 13 kW.

“It’s honestly like building with Legos,” Abdon adds. “That flexibility also gives us more freedom in where we mount the system, allowing for a cleaner, more attractive installation rather than being dictated by traditional clearance limitations. In the end, we’re completing installations faster, using less conduit, reducing wall clutter, and delivering a cleaner finished product. It’s a better experience for both our installers and our customers.”

The SolarEdge Nexis is now open for orders nationwide, the company says.
