Indian stock markets ended on a mixed note on July 15, 2026, with the benchmark indices posting modest gains despite varied performances across the green energy and power sectors. Investor sentiment remained cautious as buying in select large-cap stocks helped support the broader market, while several renewable energy companies witnessed selling pressure.
At the close of trading, the S&P BSE Sensex gained 0.17% to settle at 77,185.43, while the NIFTY 50 edged up 0.11% to finish at 24,079.10. However, the green energy sector delivered a mixed performance, reflecting different investor views on traditional energy companies expanding into clean energy and pure-play renewable firms.
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) emerged as one of the strongest performers during the session. The stock rose 2.23% on the BSE to close at Rs 140.10 and gained 2.39% on the NSE to end at Rs 140.32. GAIL also recorded a positive trading session, climbing around 1% to close near Rs 173.30. Tata Power continued its steady upward movement, advancing about 0.90% to settle at Rs 381.15 on the NSE.
The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) also attracted investor interest, rising more than 1.5% to close at Rs 118.86. Electric mobility company Olectra Greentech gained around 0.80% to finish at Rs 1,388.80. Reliance Industries, which continues to expand its clean energy business, ended the day with a modest gain of 0.16% on the NSE, closing at Rs 1,295.10.
On the losing side, Adani Green Energy was among the biggest decliners of the day. The stock dropped 2.52% on the BSE to Rs 1,564.00 and fell 2.96% on the NSE to close at Rs 1,557.00. Borosil Renewables also remained under pressure, declining more than 2% to end at Rs 622.00.
Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) slipped 1.64% on the NSE to Rs 3,785.60. JSW Energy also weakened, falling over 1.3% to Rs 549.60, while Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy declined by more than 1% to close at Rs 239.34. NTPC Green Energy Ltd. also ended in negative territory, slipping about 1.2% to Rs 93.00.
Among other energy-related stocks, Amara Raja Energy & Mobility gained around 0.60% to close at Rs 900.25. Exide Industries remained largely unchanged, easing 0.17% to Rs 418.75. Inox Wind advanced over 1.1% to Rs 79.97, while Insolation Energy posted a small gain to close at Rs 117.71. Praj Industries also ended slightly higher, gaining 0.20% to settle at Rs 352.40. Overall, the session highlighted selective buying in established energy companies alongside continued pressure on several renewable energy stocks.
