Taiwanese manufacturers Sino-American Silicon (SAS) and United Renewable Energy (URA) have announced plans to build a solar module factory in the United States, although the location has not yet been disclosed.

The facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 1 GW and require an investment of TWD 1.5 billion (approximately $40 million), according to a filing submitted by SAS to the Taiwanese stock exchange.

The company said the factory will manufacture TOPCon modules, with 70% to 80% of initial production capacity already secured through customer demand.

No further technical or financial details about the project have been disclosed.

SAS is a manufacturer of silicon wafers, solar cells and modules. The company has produced wafers at its Chunan facility since 2005 and has expanded into high-efficiency solar technologies, including n-type TOPCon cells. SAS is also the parent company of GlobalWafers, a major semiconductor silicon wafer producer, and has been pursuing international expansion through partnerships and investments across the solar supply chain. In 2024, SAS temporarily suspended production at its cell manufacturing facility in Yilan county, on the northeastern part of the island.

URE was formerly known as Neo Solar Power. It became Taiwan’s largest PV manufacturer following a 2018 merger with Gintech and Solartech. The company focuses on solar cell and module manufacturing.
