Neoenergia Brasília has announced an investment of R$3.1 billion between 2026 and 2030 to expand, modernize and digitize the electric power distribution network in Brazil’s Federal District. The investment represents an 118% increase over the previous investment cycle and is expected to benefit more than 1.3 million customers.
The investment programme includes the construction and expansion of five substations, the installation of 132 km of new high-voltage transmission lines, and reinforcement of electrical infrastructure across different regions of the Federal District. The company said the projects are aimed at improving power supply quality and reliability while preparing the network to support future economic and population growth.
André Santos, CEO of Neoenergia Brasília, said the new investment cycle will expand grid capacity, improve the quality of electricity supply and support the Federal District’s long-term development.
The investment programme coincides with the completion of the Guará 2 Substation, the first major project under the new cycle. The substation received an investment of R$32 million, adds 66.6 MVA of capacity to the electrical system and is expected to directly benefit approximately 180,000 residents.
Neoenergia Brasília said the new infrastructure will also enable faster identification and isolation of faults, helping reduce restoration times during outages. The upgrades are expected to reduce grid overloads, improve service quality and strengthen energy security across the region.
The company’s investment programme also includes workforce development. Neoenergia Brasília plans to train 400 new professionals by 2030 through its Electricians’ School and expand its technical workforce by up to 40%. The company expects women to account for approximately 45% of participants in the new training classes.
Over the next five years, around R$40 million will also be allocated to initiatives aimed at regularising electricity supply for more than 70,000 people, along with social programmes benefiting families across different administrative regions.
Neoenergia Brasília reported that its previous investments have already contributed to improvements in service quality. Between 2021 and 2025, the duration of power outages declined by 36%, while the number of outages fell by 43%, with both indicators remaining below the regulatory limits set by Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) in 2025.
The company also said its operations contributed R$4.3 billion in ICMS tax revenue to the Federal District, while more than 156,000 people benefited from programmes covering energy efficiency, professional training, sustainability and social inclusion.
