solar business acquisition

Albuquerque, New Mexico-based solar mount manufacturer Unirac has acquired the assets of Terrasmart, officials say, bolstering its solar racking product offerings.

The financial terms of this deal have not been disclosed.

Purchasing the assets of Terrasmart’s racking business from parent company Gibraltar Industries, Unirac aims to extend its residential and commercial portfolio of flat roof products. Representatives say the deal will also strengthen Unirac’s distributed generation portfolio, as well as its engineering, supply chain, and development team.

Peter Lorenz, CEO of Unirac, says the deal is “a natural extension” of the company’s existing distributed generation platform. The move strengthens the company’s offerings, building a full suite of commercial and industrial products and adding them to the catalogue.

“Terrasmart has earned a strong reputation and loyal customer base in ground mount, tracker, and canopy solutions,” he says. “By bringing Unirac’s product development, supply chain, and engineering capabilities to Terrasmart, we can accelerate innovation, improve delivery, and give our customers a more complete solution set — from the rooftop to even the most difficult ground conditions.”

Strengthening core business

Unirac officials say Terrasmart has a strong brand in its ranks, as well as a long-standing track record in the ground mount, tracker, and canopy segments of the distributed generation industry.

The deal extends that platform to Unirac, and aims to help the company extend its business beyond the residential and commercial flat roof racking market.

The move positions the newly combined company to serve customers across the mounting market, throughout several sectors. Additionally, former Terrasmart president Ed McKiernan and other officials have joined Unirac’s team as part of the acquisition, bolstering its internal workforce.

“Both Unirac and Terrasmart have strong legacies, built by delivering superior products and services to U.S. solar project customers for decades,” McKiernan says. “Combining those legacies demonstrates our unwavering commitment to that marketplace and unlocks new avenues for customer value through broad product and service solutions, geographic reach and delivery execution.”
