Under the partnership, BME will source battery cells from CATL, while CATL will provide battery pack technology licensing, production equipment and technical training. The cooperation is aimed at establishing local battery pack assembly and strengthening Egypt’s battery manufacturing supply chain.

BME is developing and fully funding a battery pack manufacturing facility with an initial annual production capacity of 1 GWh. The facility will initially manufacture battery packs for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

BME plans to expand the facility’s annual capacity to 5 GWh over the longer term. The company also intends to broaden its product portfolio to include battery packs for passenger vehicles and energy storage systems for solar and wind power applications.

BME was jointly established by Egyptian commercial vehicle manufacturer MCV and automotive industry solutions provider Auto D. Through the partnership with CATL, BME plans to supply battery packs directly to local automakers.

The agreement combines CATL’s battery technology and manufacturing expertise with BME’s local production capabilities. The initiative is expected to support the development of Egypt’s localized battery value chain while providing battery solutions for electric mobility and renewable energy applications.

CATL said it will continue working with partners across global markets to apply its battery technologies, manufacturing experience and partnership model. The company aims to support localized battery production and accelerate the adoption of electrification solutions.
