The Indian stock market witnessed a weak trading session on October 21, 2026, as major benchmark indices declined amid widespread selling pressure. The downturn also affected renewable energy and green energy stocks, with several companies recording losses during afternoon trading. Investors remained cautious as selling activity spread across multiple sectors.
The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.75% to 73,295.58, while the Nifty 50 declined 0.94% to 22,674.90. The broader market weakness weighed on investor sentiment, with renewable energy companies among the notable decliners during the session.
Websol Energy was among the worst-performing stocks in the renewable energy segment, falling 4.86% to ₹62.26 on the BSE. Insolation Energy also witnessed significant selling pressure, declining approximately 5.2%. NTPC Green Energy Ltd. dropped 4.10% to ₹84.18, while Juniper Green Energy declined 4.04% to ₹251.75.
Other companies in the clean energy and renewable energy supply chain also traded lower. Kabra Extrusion fell 4.38%, while Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy declined 4.25%. The losses reflected the broader weakness affecting renewable energy counters during the afternoon session.
Among major renewable energy companies, Adani Green Energy declined 2.77% to ₹1,264.00 on the BSE. Borosil Renewables fell 3.93% to ₹405.40, while Inox Wind registered a decline of 3.25%. These losses added to the negative sentiment across the sector as investors tracked movements in key listed companies.
Tata Power also traded in negative territory, slipping 0.90% to ₹348.40. The decline indicated that selling pressure extended to established companies with significant exposure to the power and clean energy sectors. Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a major infrastructure company involved in energy and infrastructure development, also recorded a marginal decline of 0.72% to ₹3,627.80.
Reliance Industries was among the few gainers in the energy segment, rising 0.14% to ₹1,204.50 on the BSE. Its marginal increase contrasted with the broader downward movement across energy-related stocks.
As trading progressed, market participants continued to monitor benchmark indices and renewable energy counters ahead of the closing bell. The session highlighted broad-based weakness in green energy stocks, with declines affecting solar energy, wind power, renewable energy equipment, and power companies. However, the day’s price movements alone do not establish a long-term trend for the sector, as investors continue to assess broader market conditions and company-specific developments.
