Texas-based energy firm Base Power has announced an agreement with retail giant Walmart, bringing its home energy offerings to customers across the U.S.

The recently inked deal comes on the heels of Walmart’s strategic investment in Base Power, and will make the Texan company’s affordable energy solutions available in both Walmart and Sam’s Club stores. Walmart says that beginning in November, customers will be able to enroll in eligible Base Power home battery offerings, receiving 20% off the company’s standard battery installation fee.

“We’ve built Base around a simple idea: families deserve electricity that’s affordable when the grid is working and dependable backup power when it isn’t,” says Zach Dell, CEO of Base Power. “Walmart has been helping Americans save money and live better for more than 60 years. Base brings that same commitment to home energy, and we’re excited to do it together.”

The new deal comes in part as a response to the growing demand for plug-in, balcony, and residential solar in the U.S. As utility rates continue to spike around the country, consumers are looking for potential savings through a variety of means. For Walmart and Base Power, that means striking the in-store solar iron while hot.

Kicking off

The state of Texas is currently Base Power’s de facto home, serving as its largest and most established geographical market. Base currently serves more than 35,000 members in the Lone Star State, with more than 20,000 of those households having a Base battery at home.

Walmart officials say the retail titan will launch the new offerings in Texas first, with expectations of expansion to additional locations and markets over time.

“Customers and members count on Walmart and Sam’s Club to help them make the most of their budgets,” says Shayne Wahlmeier, SVP of Walmart Energy. “Base Power gives them a practical way to help lower energy costs, have backup power during outages and support a more reliable grid. We’re proud to make these solutions more accessible through Walmart and Sam’s Club.”

Full product availability, savings potential, installation requirements, and pricing will vary due to a number of factors, Walmart officials say. However, participating Walmart and Sam’s Club locations will have Base Power representatives available to answer questions, speak on available services, and allow customers to enroll.
