Renewable Energy

Huawei International Pte. Ltd. and Keppel Ltd.’s Infrastructure Division have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly develop and deploy renewable energy technologies, with a focus on photovoltaic (PV) systems and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions.

The partnership comes at a crucial time as global electrification and decarbonisation efforts intensify. The two companies aim to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions in Asia and other key global markets.

The MOU was signed by Mr Nate Luo Chuan, Vice President and Head of Smart PV at Huawei International, and Mr Poh Tiong Keng, Executive Director of Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) at Keppel’s Infrastructure Division. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr Maxi Wang, CEO of Huawei International, and Ms Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel’s Infrastructure Division.

As part of the collaboration, Huawei and Keppel will jointly explore the design and development of innovative PV and BESS technologies for use in interconnected power grids across the ASEAN region, low-carbon data centres, industrial parks, and hybrid energy systems. The partnership aims to reduce carbon intensity, improve system stability, lower lifecycle costs, and enhance economic outcomes for targeted projects.

Operational projects under the collaboration will be connected to Keppel’s advanced Operations Nerve Centre (ONC) at Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi in Singapore. The ONC utilises Keppel’s proprietary artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) technologies for real-time remote monitoring, control, and performance optimisation.

In Singapore, Huawei and Keppel are already collaborating on a demand response programme utilising a BESS developed at Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi. This initiative enables both companies to explore new smart operation and maintenance solutions aimed at boosting the reliability, efficiency, and performance of renewable energy assets.

The strategic alliance will also include co-developing go-to-market strategies and expanding renewable energy deployments in international markets.

Mr Maxi Wang, CEO of Huawei International, said, “Our collaboration with Keppel is a bold but committed step forward in addressing the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions. By leveraging Huawei’s cutting-edge digital power technologies and Keppel’s expertise in energy management, we are not only meeting the growing demand for renewable energy to support Singapore’s global leading position in green development – we are reshaping the future of energy innovation. Together, we aim to empower businesses and communities, drive economic growth and accelerate the global transition to a low-carbon economy.”

Ms Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel’s Infrastructure Division, added, “Energy storage is essential to overcoming the intermittency of renewable energy systems. Through this partnership, we will harness Huawei’s digital power technologies and Keppel’s deep expertise in energy infrastructure to enhance the reliability and seamless integration of renewables with state-of-the-art energy storage. Together, we aim to develop advanced technology and engineering solutions that optimise life-cycle costs, enhance safety, and elevate operational excellence across the identified projects as well as new pursuits.”

This partnership aligns with international sustainability goals and supports Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 by promoting clean energy adoption and improving energy efficiency. Both companies remain committed to delivering impactful solutions that help businesses and communities transition to a greener and more sustainable future.

The collaboration is not expected to have any material impact on the net tangible asset per share or earnings per share of Keppel for the current financial year.
