In support of the Government of India’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative, NTPC Limited—India’s largest integrated power utility—has launched the 2025 edition of its flagship CSR program, the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM). The summer workshop will be held across 41 NTPC stations in 17 states, reaching over 2,600 young girls from underprivileged communities.

Now in its seventh year, GEM has grown into a nationwide initiative focused on equipping girls with the confidence, skills, and exposure they need to thrive. Originally launched as a pilot project in 2018 at just three locations, the program has already impacted more than 12,700 girls across the country.

The 2025 workshop is designed as a month-long residential program held during school summer holidays. Participants receive a well-rounded curriculum that blends basic academics with life skills and creative learning. Subjects include Hindi or local languages, English, Mathematics, Environmental Science, and basic computer literacy. Practical sessions include English communication, yoga, health and hygiene, safety, sports, dance, theatre, fitness, and public speaking. The program also includes motivational talks and industrial visits to expand the girls’ horizons and connect them to real-world experiences.

At the conclusion of the program, around 10 percent of the participants will be enrolled in NTPC-run schools, where NTPC will support their continued education through high school.

The core aim of GEM is to foster a nurturing environment where girls can develop life skills, explore their talents, and build self-confidence. It encourages young participants to dream big and become leaders within their communities and families, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and empowered society.

Over the years, the initiative has received widespread recognition for its impact. Past participants have emerged more self-assured and better equipped to face challenges, having discovered their interests and strengths through the program.
