Cygni Energy, headquartered in Hyderabad and recognized as India’s largest independent energy storage solutions company, has announced the launch of its fully operational and automated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Gigafactory. The Phase-I facility, located in the E-Mobility Valley at the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) in Maheshwaram, Hyderabad, is the first in India to be “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) qualified. The 1,60,000 sq. ft facility, built on a 5-acre campus with an investment exceeding ₹100 crores, is designed with an initial production capacity of 4.8 GWh of high-capacity battery packs. These packs will support electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems.

The factory was inaugurated by Shri Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana and CEO of the Industry & Investment Cell in the Chief Minister’s Office, along with Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of IIIT-Hyderabad, and Mr. Srini Raju, Founder of iLabs Group. The ceremony, held on Wednesday, was attended by various industrial leaders and the Cygni Energy management team.

The Phase-I facility will focus on large-scale grid storage projects and support Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Looking ahead, Cygni plans to offer advanced, high-capacity energy storage solutions with scalable and modular designs. These systems will integrate cutting-edge technologies such as Machine Learning for predictive analytics, Digital Twin technology for real-time monitoring, and advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS).

Shri. Jayesh Ranjan, said in a statement, “The inauguration of Cygni’s battery manufacturing gigafactory in Telangana marks a transformative step toward sustainable energy, manufacturing excellence, and innovation. This facility not only strengthens India’s commitment to clean energy but also creates jobs, fosters local talent, and builds a robust ecosystem for the future of energy storage solutions”.

Venkat Rajaraman, Founder and CEO of Cygni stated, “This Gigafactory positions us to lead in the energy storage sector, delivering high-quality, safe battery packs across multiple applications. Cygni’s Automated BESS Assembly Line is engineered for advanced, high-quality BESS module manufacturing, leveraging globally recognized best practices such as Poka-Yoke-enabled stations and end-to-end traceability. We plan to grow exponentially in energy storage over the next few years in India and internationally”.

The company also intends to incorporate innovations like Cell-to-Pack (CTP) and Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) design architectures, sodium-ion batteries, and super-capacitors through its collaboration with IIT-Madras. Cygni Energy has already produced and delivered 500 MWh of batteries for the power and energy sector. With a current order pipeline of 1 GWh for BESS and EV battery packs, the company boasts a nationwide service network and an experienced project commissioning team.

The manufacturing line at the Gigafactory is capable of producing 105 kWh liquid-cooled base modules using advanced 314Ah cells, which serve as essential components for energy storage systems globally. The Manufacturing Execution System (MES) ensures seamless production monitoring, real-time data analysis, quality control, and enhanced traceability, optimizing both operational efficiency and product reliability.

He further added, “In Phase II, we are scaling our Gigafactory’s capacity to 10.8 GWh in the existing facility itself. With a total investment of Rs. 250 Cr across 2 phases, this will result in direct and indirect job creation of over 1,000 jobs in the next 24 months. As part of this expansion, we will be adding three additional automated 2 GWh cell-to-pack manufacturing lines and container integration facilities to our existing lines, to meet the rising demand for stationary and e-mobility storage applications.”

Ongoing research and development at the Gigafactory will focus on developing innovative energy storage solutions using sodium-ion chemistry, improving safety through advanced thermal management strategies, and enhancing EMS algorithms to meet evolving grid-code requirements. Cygni Energy also aims to create energy storage solutions tailored specifically to India’s energy needs.
