Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has reaffirmed its strong commitment to achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 through a successful roadshow in the People’s Republic of China. The initiative aims to advance Dubai’s transformation into a global hub for sustainability, clean energy, and the green economy.
Led by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, the delegation also included Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, and Ghanim Alqassim, Senior Manager – Solar Energy. The visit focused on strengthening partnerships with major global companies and leading research centers in renewable energy and energy storage, while also reviewing the latest technological advancements being implemented at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park located in Dubai.
The roadshow featured a series of meetings and site visits with several leading companies specializing in solar and energy storage technologies. Companies visited included global industry leaders such as Sungrow, China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), Tesla, State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), and Huawei. The discussions centered on global best practices in solar generation and battery storage, supporting DEWA’s preparations for the upcoming seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
As part of the visit, DEWA hosted a dedicated forum in Shanghai, bringing together representatives from leading Chinese solar and storage companies. The forum featured presentations on the solar park’s progress and the roadmap for its seventh phase, along with an interactive Q&A session, reflecting DEWA’s transparent approach to international collaboration with clean energy developers and technology providers.
Currently, 47 international companies have expressed interest in developing the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. This phase is set to add 1,600 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic solar capacity, with potential expansion to 2,000 MW. The project will also feature a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 1,000 MW for six hours, providing a total storage capacity of 6,000 megawatt-hours — positioning it among the world’s largest integrated solar-plus-storage projects. Commissioning is scheduled to proceed in stages between 2027 and 2029.
The China roadshow follows a previous event held by DEWA in Dubai this April, which gathered approximately 100 representatives from leading solar and energy storage companies worldwide, further underscoring DEWA’s global approach to advancing its clean energy objectives.
