Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy recently dedicated a 5 MW solar power plant at the Haridwar unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, marking an important step toward cleaner and more sustainable industrial operations. The project was inaugurated during the minister’s visit to the BHEL facility in Haridwar, where several key initiatives related to manufacturing and infrastructure were also launched.

The newly installed solar power plant has been developed within the BHEL Haridwar campus to support the company’s sustainability goals. The plant is equipped with thousands of solar photovoltaic modules and is expected to generate a significant amount of clean electricity every year. By producing renewable energy on-site, the project will help reduce dependence on conventional power sources and lower carbon emissions from the plant’s operations.

During the visit, Kumaraswamy also flagged off the dispatch of the 53rd Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM), an advanced naval artillery system manufactured at the Haridwar facility. The equipment has been developed for the Indian Navy and reflects the growing role of BHEL in supporting the country’s defence manufacturing sector under the government’s “Make in India” initiative.

Another important development during the event was the inauguration of a 30-ton electric arc furnace at the Central Foundry Forge Plant of BHEL. The new furnace is expected to enhance the plant’s manufacturing capabilities and improve the production of high-quality forged components required in the power and heavy engineering sectors.

The minister also flagged off an 800 MW turbine-generator stator manufactured by BHEL for a thermal power project of Adani Power. The equipment will be used in the Raipur power project and will contribute to large-scale electricity generation.

The visit highlighted the important role of public sector companies like BHEL in strengthening India’s manufacturing sector while supporting the country’s renewable energy transition.
