In a major push toward sustainable development, HDFC Bank announced its plan to bring clean and renewable energy solutions to 1,000 villages across India by 2025, under its flagship CSR initiative, Parivartan. The initiative was unveiled in alignment with Earth Day 2025’s global theme, Our Power, Our Planet, which emphasizes the need for accelerated clean energy adoption.

Under the natural resource management pillar of Parivartan, the bank has already installed over 61,655 solar streetlights across 22 states, significantly improving safety, mobility, and quality of life in rural communities. The solar installations have extended their impact beyond lighting — supporting access to clean drinking water, enhancing farming practices, aiding food processing, and bolstering livelihoods.

To complement infrastructure development, HDFC Bank has launched Solar Shiksha, a community outreach and awareness program. This initiative aims to educate semi-urban and rural populations about the benefits of solar energy, dispel prevalent myths, and simplify access to government subsidies and schemes. It includes practical demonstrations and informational campaigns to increase grassroots-level solar adoption.

Kaizad Bharucha, Deputy Managing Director, emphasized that these efforts aim to deliver real, measurable impact, stating, “Our solar energy initiatives under Parivartan are designed to light up lives and create opportunities. On Earth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to scaling such impactful models across India.”

Echoing the sentiment, Nusrat Pathan, Head of CSR, noted that the democratization of solar energy involves not just deployment, but meaningful community engagement.

The initiative marks a strong step forward in promoting equitable, sustainable energy access in India.
