Jordan Chamber of Industry has announced the successful financial closure of a 100-megawatt solar power project that aims to strengthen the country’s energy independence and support its industrial sector. The project is being led by Shams Renewable Power Company and is described as one of the first large-scale collaborative renewable energy efforts driven by Jordan’s industrial community.
The solar plant will supply clean electricity to 63 industrial companies operating in different sub-sectors. By shifting to solar energy, these firms are expected to reduce their electricity expenses and improve their competitiveness in local and export markets. Industry leaders believe that lowering energy costs will help manufacturers increase production efficiency and expand their presence in regional and international trade.
Fathi Jaghbir, President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, said the initiative represents a new model of joint industrial cooperation. He noted that the project could boost business activity, increase exports, and create more employment opportunities for Jordanians. According to him, collective investment in renewable energy can provide long-term economic and environmental benefits for the country.
Abdullah Shawabkeh, Chairman of Shams Renewable Power Company, confirmed that the project has achieved full financing, allowing it to move directly into the implementation stage. A construction contract has already been awarded to a local Jordanian company, marking the beginning of on-ground development work.
The project required close coordination with government authorities to obtain necessary approvals. It has been allocated around 2,000 dunums of state-owned land, equivalent to nearly 500 acres. All required permits for grid connection have also been secured. The plant will operate under a wheeling system, meaning the electricity generated at the solar site will be transmitted through the national grid and credited to the participating industrial companies located in different parts of the country.
The initiative supports Jordan’s national energy strategy, which focuses on diversifying energy sources and reducing dependence on imported conventional fuels. By encouraging industries to adopt renewable energy, the project sets an example for future developments and strengthens the country’s economic stability and environmental commitment.
