State-owned utility PT PLN (Persero) has successfully energized the 150 kiloVolt (kV) Blangpidie–Tapak Tuan High Voltage Overhead Line (SUTT) and the 150 kV Blangpidie Extension Substation (GI), reinforcing electricity reliability across Aceh’s west coast region.

The project, executed by PLN’s North Sumatra Main Development Unit (UIP), includes a 150 kV transmission line spanning 115 circuit kilometers supported by 166 transmission towers. It also integrates a 30 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) transformer at the Tapak Tuan Substation to support growing demand in South Aceh Regency.

According to PLN, the infrastructure serves as a regional interconnection linking Blangpidie in Southwest Aceh to Samadua in South Aceh. The development is aimed at stabilizing voltage, improving supply continuity, and reducing dependence on diesel-powered power plants (PLTD).

Reducing Diesel Dependence

With the new transmission backbone operational, South Aceh is expected to significantly cut its reliance on diesel generators. PLN estimates average fuel savings of approximately 638.6 kiloliters per month as diesel usage declines. The Kota Fajar diesel power plant is also set to cease operations following the commissioning of the high-voltage line.

The project will eliminate the region’s dependence on medium-voltage grids and strengthen load maneuverability during system disturbances, thereby reducing blackout risks.

Supporting National Energy Goals

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the energization aligns with the company’s commitment to supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita agenda, particularly in advancing national energy self-sufficiency.

“This infrastructure strengthens national energy security by reducing dependence on fossil-fueled power plants,” Darmawan said, adding that PLN continues to accelerate equitable and sustainable power infrastructure development across Indonesia.

Local Government Welcomes Move

Acting Regent of South Aceh, Baital Mukadis, welcomed the development, noting that the improved reliability and quality of electricity supply would support public services, community activities, and regional economic growth.

PLN UIP North Sumatra General Manager Dewanto emphasized that all project stages adhered to technical standards and occupational health and safety (K3) requirements. He added that the 30 MVA transformer capacity is designed to accommodate rising demand from households, businesses, and industries in the region.

PLN reiterated that it remains committed to delivering reliable, efficient, and sustainable electricity infrastructure as a foundation for Indonesia’s long-term economic growth and public welfare.
