Plus Xnergy Services Sdn Bhd, an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of BM GreenTech Berhad, has signed two major contracts with Cenergi Aeropolis Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd (CARE) for the development of one of Malaysia’s largest self-consumption (SELCO) solar photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integrated projects.
Awarded through a competitive tender, the RM71.76 million contracts cover engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC), as well as equipment and materials supply for a 36 MWp ground-mounted solar PV plant integrated with a 45 MWh BESS. The project is located within KLIA Aeropolis and is targeted for completion in the first half of 2027.
Once operational, the renewable energy facility will support the electricity demand of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), a key national aviation hub. The project is among the largest SELCO initiatives in Malaysia incorporating BESS technology, positioning it as a milestone in sustainable infrastructure development.
The integrated BESS is designed to address solar intermittency by storing surplus energy generated during peak production hours and discharging it when required, ensuring stable and uninterrupted power supply for airport operations.
Upon full commissioning, the CARE renewable energy facility is expected to generate approximately 46 GWh of clean electricity annually over a 25-year lifespan, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 35,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year. This reduction is comparable to powering around 13,400 homes annually or removing 8,000 internal combustion engine vehicles from the road.
Ko Chuan Zhen, Executive Director of BM GreenTech and Group Chief Executive Officer of Plus Xnergy, said the project represents a significant step in delivering low-carbon energy solutions to critical national infrastructure. He noted that the integration of renewable energy with BESS could serve as a blueprint for airports, ports, and other strategic assets seeking to enhance sustainability and resilience.
Plus Xnergy has previously undertaken pioneering renewable projects in Malaysia. In 2024, the company deployed the country’s first sodium-sulfur BESS with a 1.45 MWh capacity in Bukit Selambau, Kedah, marking Malaysia’s first utility-scale BESS connected to an operational Large-Scale Solar (LSS) farm. In August 2025, the company secured a RM95 million contract from Nefin V Power Sdn Bhd to construct a 45 MWp solar PV plant under the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP), an initiative by the Energy Commission.
CARE is a joint venture between Cenergi SEA Berhad and KLIA Aeropolis Sdn Bhd. Cenergi is a subsidiary of UEM Lestra Berhad, while KLIA Aeropolis is wholly owned by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.
