In a major push towards integrating renewable energy with national infrastructure, the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop solar power projects along the elevated stretch of the Delhi–Saharanpur–Dehradun Highway (NH-709B), Package-1 (Delhi portion), under Phase 1.

The MoU was formalized in the presence of Shri Harsh Malhotra, Hon’ble Minister of State for Corporate Affairs & Road Transport and Highways, Shri Sanjay Sharma, Director (Solar), SECI, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), NHAI, and SECI.

According to SECI, the collaboration aims to transform national highways into clean energy corridors by utilizing vacant and underused spaces for solar power generation. The initiative is expected to support India’s Net Zero 2070 target by embedding renewable energy solutions directly into transport infrastructure.

Officials noted that the partnership reflects India’s growing focus on sustainability and innovation, marking a step forward in harmonizing economic development with environmental responsibility.
