As the U.S. residential solar market shifts toward more flexible, localized energy generation, APsystems has launched its third-generation dual-module microinverter specifically designed for the do-it-yourself (DIY) and balcony solar segments. The newly introduced EZ1-LV microinverter aims to streamline decentralized, small-scale solar deployments by offering a true plug-and-play grid connection without requiring complex, hardwired electrical work.
Designed exclusively for applications such as balconies, gardens, garages, and carports, the EZ1-LV allows users to leverage an optional 16 AWG, 5-meter AC extension cable equipped with a standard 120 V plug. This enables a direct connection into a standard household wall socket, drastically reducing installation time and lowering barriers to solar adoption for renters and homeowners alike. The manufacturer explicitly notes that the system is not intended for standard rooftop solar arrays.

Despite its focus on the DIY market, the EZ1-LV is a robust piece of power electronics. The dual-channel microinverter boasts a maximum continuous output power of 900 VA and interfaces with two PV modules simultaneously. To accommodate today’s high-power, large-format solar panels, each input channel supports a high maximum input current of 18 A (with a 25 A short-circuit current capability) and features independent Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) operating between 27 V and 45 V. The system supports recommended PV module power ratings ranging from 315 Wp to upwards of 660 Wp.
Engineered to operate reliably under harsh conditions, the unit is housed in a rugged Type 6 enclosure cooled via natural convection, eliminating the need for mechanical fans. It features an operating ambient temperature tolerance from -40°F to +149°F (-40°C to +65°C) and weighs in at a manageable 9.3 pounds (4.2 kg).
APsystems has integrated localized and cloud-based communications directly into the hardware architecture. End-users can establish a direct local connection via Bluetooth using a smartphone to view real-time production metrics. For off-site monitoring, the microinverter connects directly via built-in Wi-Fi to a local internet router, transmitting data to cloud servers. System behavior and generation tracking are managed through the proprietary AP EasyPower app, which supports monitoring for up to four units simultaneously. Up to two EZ1-LV units can be connected in a single branch circuit.
From a compliance and safety standpoint, the microinverter meets strict U.S. and Canadian standards. The unit is CSA C/US listed and complies with distributed energy resource standards including UL 1741, UL 1741SB, and IEEE 1547. Notably, the microinverter features an integrated safety protection relay and addresses mandatory safety guidelines across multiple National Electrical Code (NEC) cycles. It meets both Section 690.11 DC Arc-Fault circuit protection and Section 690.12 Rapid Shutdown requirements spanning NEC 2014 through NEC 2023.
The microinverter leverages high-frequency, galvanically isolated transformers and comes backed by a standard 120-volt nominal grid frequency framework (60 Hz). APsystems offers a 12-year standard warranty on the EZ1-LV.
