The installed capacity of commercial and industrial (C&I) prosumers registered under Argentina’s national distributed generation scheme reached 132.1 MW in July, according to the latest figures from the Secretariat of Energy. The segment accounts for nearly 80% of the 165.5 MW of total capacity connected under the scheme.

Commercial and industrial distributed generation capacity has more than doubled over the past year. In July 2025, the Secretariat recorded 65.6 MW of capacity in the segment, meaning 66.5 MW was added over the following 12 months, representing year-on-year growth of 101.4%, according to calculations based on official data.

Despite the rapid increase, the segment’s share of total distributed generation capacity has remained largely unchanged. Commercial and industrial installations accounted for 79.6% of the 82.4 MW registered under the national scheme in July 2025, compared with 79.8% of 165.5 MW in July 2026. Overall distributed generation capacity increased by 100.8% over the same period.

Growth has also remained strong during 2026. Commercial and industrial capacity stood at 98.4 MW at the end of December 2025, indicating an increase of 34.2% through July.

Using January 2026 as a benchmark, capacity increased from 104 MW to 132.1 MW by July, a rise of 27%.

The number of commercial and industrial prosumers has also increased significantly. It rose from 1,205 in July 2025 to 2,089 in July 2026, representing year-on-year growth of 73.4%. At the end of December 2025, the segment had 1,599 registered users.

Capacity has therefore grown faster than the number of users. Average installed capacity per commercial and industrial user increased from approximately 54.4 kW in July 2025 to 63.2 kW in July 2026, an increase of about 16.2%.

Between June and July alone, commercial and industrial capacity increased by 4.7 MW, from 127.4 MW to 132.1 MW, while the number of registered users rose from 2,025 to 2,089. This corresponds to monthly increases of 3.7% and 3.2%, respectively.

Other distributed generation categories also recorded growth between June and July, although their additions were smaller. Residential capacity increased from 12.7 MW to 13.2 MW, while the number of residential user-generators rose from 2,443 to 2,525.

Capacity registered by official entities and agencies edged up from 10.86 MW to 10.89 MW, with the number of users increasing from 122 to 124. The “other” category grew from 8.65 MW and 143 users to 9.33 MW and 152 users.

Across the national distributed generation scheme, Argentina had 4,891 user-generators with 165.5 MW of capacity connected through bidirectional meters in July. A year earlier, the scheme comprised 3,034 users and 82.4 MW. Total capacity therefore increased by 100.8% year on year, while the number of users rose by 61.2%.

Argentina added almost 6 MW of distributed generation capacity between June and July, with the total rising from 159.5 MW to 165.5 MW, according to the Secretariat of Energy. The increase represents month-on-month growth of approximately 3.8%.
