UK heating equipment manufacturer Baxi has launched the Auriga HP+ and Auriga HP+ ES, two new ranges of “high-output” air-to-water heat pumps for commercial applications.

Both product families are reversible and are available with a range of factory-fitted options, allowing the equipment to be configured for different building and system requirements. Baxi is targeting applications including schools, healthcare facilities, offices, hotels and energy centers.

The new units use propane (R290) as the refrigerant and are designed to provide space heating, cooling and domestic hot water. The systems can be deployed in new-build, retrofit and hybrid heating systems.

The standard Auriga HP+ range is available in nominal capacities of 50 kW, 60 kW, 75 kW, 85 kW, 100 kW, 120 kW, 150 kW and 170 kW. Baxi also offers an Auriga HP+ ES version designed for higher efficiency and lower acoustic emissions. The manufacturer describes the ES range as spanning 55 kW to 170 kW.

The heat pumps can produce leaving water temperatures of up to 70 C, which Baxi says makes them suitable for retrofit projects incorporating existing high-temperature emitters such as traditional radiators. They are designed to operate in heating mode at outdoor temperatures as low as -20 C and can operate at outdoor temperatures up to 42 C in summer.

The ES models incorporate electronically commutated inverter-driven axial fans. According to Baxi, the fan configuration enables high airflow at lower rotational speeds and reduces sound levels by 8 dB(A) compared with the standard version.

The smaller 50 kW to 85 kW Auriga HP+ units measure 2,480 mm × 1,350 mm × 2,100 mm and weigh between 810 kg and 920 kg. The 100 kW to 170 kW models have a footprint of 4,990 mm × 1,350 mm, a height of 2,100 mm and weigh between 1,530 kg and 1,790 kg.

The corresponding ES units are slightly taller and heavier. The 50 kW to 85 kW models measure 2,480 mm × 1,350 mm × 2,200 mm and weigh between 900 kg and 980 kg, while the 100 kW to 170 kW units measure 4,990 mm × 1,350 mm × 2,200 mm and weigh between 1,700 kg and 1,880 kg.

Baxi said the new products are compliant with seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) requirements under the European ErP framework, although detailed SCOP and coefficient of performance (COP) values for individual models are not listed on the manufacturer’s public product page.

The new high-output products extend Baxi’s existing Auriga HP+ propane heat pump portfolio. The company’s smaller Auriga HP+ models are available in 20 kW and 30 kW versions, with water temperatures of up to 80 C and published SCOP values of up to 5.17 at a 35 C leaving-water temperature.
