Former Atlas Renewable Energy executive and two-decade energy industry veteran Guillermo Robles has launched FieldSignal, a new app for solar project inspections and site visits.

The FieldSignal team built the new field data collection app with renewable energy and environmental field work in mind, says Robles, the company’s founder. The app captures GPS-tagged notes, as well as photos, checklists, and map data in one app which crucially requires no cell signal.

“Wind, solar, and storage sites sit where coverage doesn’t,” Robles says. “An app that needs signal is an app that fails where the work happens.”

The app runs natively on both iOS and Android systems, and is available in English, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and German. The program covers operation and maintenance for solar projects, as well as battery energy storage system (BESS) assets and wind farms.

According to Robles, the app is able to keep note capture, checklists, and saved maps up and running while offline, syncing the data automatically as soon as wireless connection returns.

The newly launched app also imports shapefiles and georeferenced GeoPDF maps, and will allow users to both draw and measure within the app. The program is able to export a site visit’s track and pins, uploading them to Google Earth. From there, project teams can add shared projects, as well as visit assignments, and sign off on and approve things within the program.

“From that record the app generates two reports: Field Observations while a visit is under way, and a structured Site Visit Report when it ends, as a branded PDF or Word file,” the Wyoming-based company says. “The narrative is written by AI from the data recorded on site, the user reviews it before it goes out, and every report states that AI was used.”

FieldSignal is free to download as of Oct. 20. Each new user will receive 14 days of free full access with no credit card required, and a free plan will remain in place after the trial.

Robles and FieldSignal will exhibit at this year’s RE+ 2026 conference in Las Vegas, Nov. 16-19.
