Andaman & Nicobar Tenders 20 MWh BESS
The Andaman and Nicobar administration has invited bids for a 20 MWh grid-connected Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Dollygunj, Port Blair. The project is aimed at strengthening grid stability and supporting greater integration of renewable energy within the island electricity system. Battery storage can help manage fluctuations in renewable generation, shift electricity between periods of surplus and peak demand, and improve overall power reliability. NLC–OREDA Form Green Energy JV
NLC India Renewables Limited and the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) have formed a 51:49 joint venture to develop renewable energy projects in Odisha. NLC India Renewables will hold the majority 51% stake, while OREDA will own the remaining 49%. The partnership creates a dedicated platform to advance green energy development by combining NLC India’s renewable project capabilities with OREDA’s state-level expertise. The venture reflects the increasing use of partnerships between central public-sector renewable companies and state agencies to accelerate project development and expand clean energy capacity across India.
UPCL Tenders BESS in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has invited bids for the development of standalone Battery Energy Storage System projects across Uttarakhand. The proposed storage facilities are expected to strengthen the state’s electricity network by providing greater flexibility for balancing supply and demand while supporting renewable energy integration. Battery storage is becoming increasingly important as Uttarakhand develops its renewable energy ecosystem, with the state regulator already introducing benchmark cost norms and storage charges for BESS projects. BERC Reviews Additional 70 MW LTA
The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) has sought clarification from East Central Railway (ECR) regarding an additional 70 MW Long-Term Access (LTA) No Objection Certificate in Bihar. The regulatory proceedings concern ECR’s electricity arrangements and the documentation associated with securing additional long-term access. BERC’s intervention seeks further clarity before progressing with the matter, reflecting the Commission’s scrutiny of transmission access and open-access arrangements for large electricity consumers. The case is significant as railways increasingly procure electricity through alternative supply arrangements and renewable energy sources while navigating state-level transmission, open-access and regulatory requirements.
REC Transfers Luhri SPV to Terralight
REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) has handed over Luhri Power Transmission Limited to Terralight Solar Energy Tinwari Private Limited following a tariff-based competitive bidding process. RECPDCL transferred its entire shareholding of 50,000 equity shares along with the SPV’s associated assets and liabilities. The transaction was completed for approximately ₹14.13 crore, including applicable taxes, professional fees and expense reimbursements. Following the transfer, Luhri Power Transmission ceased to be a subsidiary of RECPDCL and REC, with Terralight assuming responsibility for developing the transmission project.
BERC Reviews Open Access Charges Dispute
The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission has sought additional clarifications from Bihar’s distribution companies and East Central Railway in an ongoing dispute concerning open-access charges. The proceedings relate to the charges applicable to ECR’s electricity procurement arrangements and require further submissions from the parties before the Commission reaches its decision.
