German inverter manufacturer Kostal Kostal has launched a 25 kW sales battery inverter for commercial installations and high-end residential buildings, as well as new systems and battery storage retrofits.

The Plenticore BI 25 three-phase, AC-coupled battery inverter allows the storage system to be sized independently. Kostal is targeting specialist planners, installers and operators seeking to deploy large-scale storage, reduce peak loads or optimize solar self-consumption.

Three independent battery connections enable the integration of high-voltage batteries, including Kostal’s modular Helivor HV system. The inverter supports storage capacities from 5 kWh to 230 kWh.

Kostal specifies a peak efficiency of 98.3% and says the inverter has low standby losses. The system can also use dynamic electricity tariffs to charge and discharge the battery according to electricity prices.

The Plenticore BI 25 provides three-phase backup power for loads of up to 25 kVA. It can be combined with Kostal’s Piko CI G commercial PV inverter, which is available in 30 kW, 50 kW and 100 kW versions. The separation of the PV and battery inverters allows the inverter to be installed close to the solar array, potentially reducing DC cable runs, the manufacturer said.

Kostal’s Multi Device Control (MDC) enables the inverters to be networked as an integrated system. The platform coordinates energy flows and higher-level control signals, including those required under Section 9 of Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and Section 14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG).

The Plenticore BI 25 is also designed for integration into networked energy systems. Standardized communication interfaces, including EEBus and Modbus/SunSpec TCP, enable connections to energy and building management systems.

Kostal says the inverter is designed for straightforward installation and commissioning. Push-in terminals facilitate wiring, while commissioning can be carried out via an app, web server or directly on the inverter. Firmware updates are installed automatically, and system and operating data can be monitored through Kostal’s app and portal.
