U.S. heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) manufacturer MRCool has launched a new 115 V monoblock heat pump designed to provide heating and cooling without the outdoor unit normally required by conventional ductless mini-split systems.

The company specializes in do-it-yourself (DIY) ductless mini-split heat pump systems. Its units use patented, factory-sealed refrigerant lines that come pre-charged, enabling homeowners to install a complete heating and cooling system themselves. This design eliminates the typical need for licensed HVAC professionals, vacuum pumps, and other specialized installation equipment.

According to the manufacturer, the wall-mounted system uses difluoromethane (R-32) refrigerant and is designed for smaller spaces, including garages, home offices, accessory dwelling units, studios, and other auxiliary rooms. It features a full-metal body and housing panel, while its compressor, condenser fan, and blower fan use direct-current (DC) technology. The unit also incorporates a reusable air filter and oscillating airflow.

“The new MRCool Monoblock MTHP Series is an all-in-one, wall-mounted heat pump that provides year-round heating and cooling without an outdoor condenser, refrigerant-line installation, or certified HVAC technician,” the company said in a statement. “Its standard 115 V plug-in design makes it easier to add climate control to individual spaces without extending ductwork or installing a traditional split system.”

The system measures 1,001 mm × 587 mm × 205 mm and weighs approximately 42.4 kg. It has a rated cooling capacity of 10,000 British thermal units per hour (Btu/h) and a heating capacity of 9,000 Btu/h, equivalent to approximately 0.83 tons of cooling capacity. MRCool lists a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2 (SEER2) rating of 15, an Energy Efficiency Ratio 2 (EER2) of 9.9, and a Heating Seasonal Performance Factor 2 (HSPF2) of 7.5.

The manufacturer specifies an operating noise range of 32 dBA at low speed to 46 dBA at high speed.

MRCool says the Monoblock heat pump requires no refrigerant handling during installation. The approach differs from the company’s better-known DIY mini-split systems, which use pre-charged refrigerant lines connecting an indoor unit to an outdoor condenser. With the new product, those connections are eliminated because the refrigeration components are integrated into the wall-mounted unit.

MRCool describes the system as an option for locations where there is insufficient space for an outdoor condenser or where a conventional split-system installation would be unnecessarily complex. The system nevertheless requires appropriate electrical and building work, including creating the required wall openings and ensuring that the installation complies with local building and electrical codes.

“With no outdoor condenser or refrigerant lines to connect, the Monoblock MTHP Series provides an easy, plug-and-play solution for homeowners looking to transition away from fossil-fuel space heaters to highly efficient heat-pump technology,” the company stated. “Homeowners do not need an outdoor equipment pad or a technician to charge refrigerant lines, while the 115V plug-in design can avoid dedicated high-voltage wiring or an expensive electrical panel upgrade in many applications.”
