Power generation system provider Nextpower has agreed to acquire complementary assets from Zigor Corp.’s power conversion business, as well as its U.S.-based subsidiary, Apex Power.
In total, the transaction considerations include about $80.5 million in cash, with another planned incremental investment of $50 million from Nextpower.
The transaction is set to expand Nextpower’s product portfolio in the utility-scale solar power conversion market, officials say. Additionally, the deal will serve as support for Nextpower’s entry into battery energy storage system (BESS) and data center markets, officials say.
Dan Shugar, founder and CEO of Nextpower, says the acquisition will allow Nextpower to begin a “comprehensive inverter offering.” The deal also comes as response to customer requests for power conversion solutions on their solar assets.
“We will be in market with products for solar, storage, and data centers, and building out U.S. manufacturing as quickly as is prudent,” Shugar says. “Initial customer demand is promising and we look forward to welcoming the legacy Apex Power and Zigor team members to Nextpower once the transaction closes.”
The deal includes modular and field-deployed inverter technology for Nextpower, as well as talent from Zigor’s engineering division. The acquired product technology is suitable for solar and battery applications at 1500V, as well as repowering applications at several voltage levels.
This latest M&A move is expected to enable the company’s inverter manufacturing scaling in the U.S., representatives say. Expected to begin in 2027, the scale-up process will support very close integration of power electronics with Nextpower’s solar trackers, eBOS products, and its larger technology platform.
The scaling process is designed to help the company capitalize on the booming AI data center sector and other large load electrical needs. By reducing procurement complexity and enabling “more efficient project design and deployment,” the firm will be able to provide energy products for AI companies like Google, Anthropic, and Meta.
This deal is still subject to relevant approval. Following the acquisition’s closing, the acquired assets, including Apex Power, will begin integration into Nextpower’s operations. Zigor Corp. itself will continue to operate its remaining business independently.
