NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has announced a significant step toward expanding renewable energy in India through a strategic partnership with GAIL (India) Limited. The Board of Directors of NGEL approved the formation of a new Joint Venture Company (JVC) during a board meeting held on January 15, 2026, from 3:20 PM to 4:30 PM. This collaboration is intended to focus on the development and implementation of renewable energy projects across the country.

As per the regulatory filing submitted to the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited, the proposed entity will be a 50:50 joint venture between NGEL and GAIL. While the board has given its internal approval for the agreement, the formal incorporation of the JVC is subject to the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Power, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), and other statutory authorities.

The announcement was made in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. NGEL stated that more specific details about the venture, as required under the SEBI Master Circular dated November 11, 2024, will be shared with the stock exchanges at an appropriate time.

This partnership represents a major collaboration between two leading public sector undertakings in India’s energy sector. By combining their expertise and resources, NGEL and GAIL aim to strengthen the country’s renewable energy infrastructure and accelerate green energy projects nationwide. The official communication regarding the joint venture was signed by Manish Kumar, the Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of NGEL, signaling a move toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
