Photovoltaic systems installed in Germany supplied just over 12 TWh of electricity to the public grid for the first time in July, according to data from the Energy-Charts platform compiled by Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.
The platform recorded 12.0355 TWh for the month, breaking the previous monthly record set in June. In June, the 11 TWh mark was exceeded for the first time.

The figure also represents a significant increase from July 2025, when photovoltaics fed 8.376 TWh into the public electricity grid. Germany’s cumulative installed solar capacity stood at just over 107 GW then, compared with 125 GW today.
Germany also recorded substantially more sunshine hours in July than a year earlier. The German Meteorological Service (DWD) said the country experienced an “unusually high” 272 hours of sunshine during the month, around 30% above the 1961-1990 average of 211 hours. By comparison, July 2025 recorded just 189 hours of sunshine.
“In some areas, the southwest approached record levels. Regionally, the area recorded between 325 and 350 hours of sunshine, averaging 11 to 12 hours of sunshine per day,” the DWD said.
The latest analysis from Energy-Charts follows its report last week that photovoltaics supplied more than 20% of EU electricity demand in May, June and July for the first time. In Germany, the solar share of electricity demand exceeded 30% for the first time, remaining above threshold across each month. Fraunhofer researchers recorded a share of 30.3% in May, 30.4% in June and a preliminary 31.6% in July.
