POWERGRID, a leading Government of India enterprise, has emerged as the successful bidder for a major interstate power transmission project under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism. The company received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on June 16, 2026, confirming its selection for the implementation of the project titled “WR-ER Inter-Regional Network Expansion Scheme Part-A.”

The announcement was made through a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE. The project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis, a model commonly used for large-scale transmission infrastructure projects in India.

The transmission scheme is aimed at strengthening power connectivity between the Western and Eastern regions of the country. It is expected to enhance the reliability of electricity transmission, improve grid stability, and support the growing demand for power across multiple states. The project also aligns with India’s broader objective of developing a robust and resilient national transmission network capable of supporting future economic growth and renewable energy integration.

As part of the project, POWERGRID will establish two new 765/400 kV substations. These substations will be located in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh and are expected to play a crucial role in facilitating efficient power transfer between regions. In addition to building new substations, the company will undertake the expansion and extension of existing substations in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal to accommodate increased transmission requirements.

The project also includes the construction of high-capacity 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines. These transmission corridors will pass through the states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, creating stronger interconnections within the national grid. The new infrastructure is expected to improve the movement of electricity across regions and support the reliable supply of power to consumers.

POWERGRID informed stakeholders about the development in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The filing was signed by Anjana Luthra, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of the company, from POWERGRID’s corporate office in Gurugram, Haryana.

The project further strengthens POWERGRID’s position as a key player in India’s transmission sector and highlights its continued role in expanding the country’s power infrastructure network.
