ReNew Energy Global Plc (ReNew) has announced plans to set up a 6.5 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Anakapalli district near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹4,200 crore. The project is expected to be commissioned within 24 months and generate over 2,100 direct and indirect jobs.
The foundation stone for the facility was laid by Nara Chandrababu Naidu, underscoring the state’s growing prominence as a hub for renewable energy manufacturing.
The proposed facility aims to strengthen India’s domestic solar supply chain by enabling backward integration into critical upstream components such as ingots and wafers. This move aligns with the country’s broader push for self-reliance in clean energy manufacturing and is supported by the expansion of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework to include wafers and ingots from June 2028.
The project forms part of ReNew’s larger investment commitment of approximately ₹82,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh, announced during the CII Partnership Summit 2025, aimed at accelerating the state’s role in India’s clean energy ecosystem.
Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the importance of balancing industrial growth with sustainability, noting that the investment would drive job creation and economic development while reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s position in clean energy manufacturing.
Sumant Sinha, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of ReNew, emphasized that strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities is critical to India’s clean energy transition and reiterated the company’s commitment to building an integrated renewable energy value chain.
ReNew currently operates 6.5 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity, with cell manufacturing capacity expected to scale up to 6.5 GW by December 2026, of which 2.5 GW is already operational. During FY26, the company produced over 4.1 GW of modules and nearly 1.86 GW of solar cells.
The company also secured an equity investment of ₹870 crore in its solar manufacturing business from British International Investment during FY26.
In parallel, ReNew is developing a large hybrid renewable energy project in Anantapur district with an investment of around ₹22,000 crore. The project will have a total capacity of approximately 2.8 GW, including 1.8 GWp solar, 1 GW wind, and a 2 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS), making it one of India’s largest integrated renewable energy complexes.
ReNew has maintained a presence in Andhra Pradesh since 2015 and currently operates 717 MW of wind and 60 MW of solar capacity in the state, alongside community development initiatives across multiple districts.
