US-based heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) and water heating products provider Rheem has introduced its Torin commercial heat pump for domestic hot water and hydronic space-heating applications.

The new products are available in 20 kW and 35 kW versions and use R-454B refrigerant.

The two models have nominal heating capacities of 68,000 BTU/h (20 kW) and 120,000 BTU/h (35 kW). Both units operate on a 480 V, three-phase, 60 Hz electrical supply and are intended for indoor or outdoor installation.

The heat pumps rely on inverter-driven compressors. Rheem lists a coefficient of performance (COP) of 4.5 under US Department of Energy (DOE) test conditions, based on an ambient temperature of 26.7 C, an inlet-water temperature of 21.1 C and an outlet-water temperature of 48.9 C.

The manufacturer said the units can operate at outdoor temperatures as low as -25 C and deliver water at temperatures of up to 65.6 C. They support single-pass and multipass hydraulic configurations.

The 20 kW model measures approximately 1,016 mm × 1,016 mm × 1,067 mm and weighs 163 kg. It has a rated power input of 4.9 kW and supports water flow rates of between 18.9 liters/min and 56.8 liters/min.

The 35 kW version measures 1,016 mm × 1,016 mm × 1,473 mm and weighs about 219 kg. Its rated input is 9.8 kW, with supported flow rates ranging from 18.9 liters/min to 75.7 liters/min.

Both models use a double-wall, 316L stainless-steel water heat exchanger and 25.4 mm copper water connections. Their stated sound level is 75 dB(A) at a distance of 3.05 meters.

Up to 16 units can be installed in a cascade arrangement to provide additional capacity or redundancy. The systems include Rheem’s Sky-35 touchscreen controller and support integration with building-management systems through BACnet and Modbus interfaces.

The heat pumps are Energy Star certified and carry NSF/ANSI 5, 61 and 372 certifications.

With the new product line, Rheem is targeting hotels, multifamily buildings, educational campuses, offices and government facilities.
