RWE and Google have signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) covering the full output of RWE’s 155 MWac Crooked Creek Solar project in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. The agreement marks RWE’s first solar project in the state and will support Google’s electricity demand in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market once the facility becomes operational.

RWE said construction on the Crooked Creek Solar project is expected to begin later this year, with commercial operations targeted for 2028. The project will supply renewable electricity to Google’s regional operations while contributing to Oklahoma’s clean energy capacity.

According to the companies, the project is expected to generate approximately $24.3 million in local economic activity during construction, along with an estimated $1.4 million in state and local tax revenue for McCurtain County. Peak construction is expected to employ up to 250 onsite workers.

Once operational, Crooked Creek Solar is projected to contribute an estimated $25 million in long-term revenue to support county programs, local emergency medical services, the Broken Bow School District, and regional technology education centres.

The project forms part of RWE’s broader investment strategy in Oklahoma. In addition to the 155 MW Crooked Creek Solar project, the company owns and operates the 148 MW Boiling Springs Wind project in Woodward County and is developing six additional energy projects with a combined capacity of 1.6 GW across the state.

RWE also stated that it has contributed more than $100,000 through donations, sponsorships, and community partnerships in Oklahoma and plans to expand its support for organisations in McCurtain County as the project progresses.

Across the United States, RWE currently operates approximately 13 GW of installed generation capacity, including solar, onshore wind, and battery storage assets across 27 states. The company plans to invest €17 billion in the U.S. by 2031 as part of its global investment strategy, aiming to add 9 GW of new generation capacity and increase its U.S. portfolio to 22 GW. The expansion is expected to include additional wind, solar, battery storage, and flexible gas-fired peaking power projects designed to support grid reliability.
