Federal Express Corporation, widely known as FedEx, has partnered with SOLS Foundation to provide solar energy systems to Kampung Kepayang, an Orang Asli village located in Batang Padang, Perak, Malaysia. The initiative has brought reliable electricity to 15 households that previously struggled with unstable power sources.

Kampung Kepayang is home to 73 residents from the Semai indigenous community and is situated around 153 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur. Before the project was implemented, villagers mainly depended on candles and fuel-powered generators for lighting. The newly installed solar systems now offer a cleaner and more dependable source of electricity for daily household activities.

A total of 23 FedEx employees volunteered during the installation process. The volunteers were divided into four groups and assisted with installing internal electrical equipment such as batteries, tube lights, and motion-sensor security lamps inside each home. Meanwhile, the technical experts from the SOLS Foundation handled the rooftop installation of solar panels.

Each home received a 50-watt solar panel along with a 141.52Wh lithium-ion battery system. The setup is capable of providing up to 19 hours of lighting on a single charge. This allows families to carry out evening activities more comfortably, supports children with schoolwork after dark, and improves nighttime safety around homes.

The volunteers also collected information from household heads to understand existing living conditions and energy usage patterns. This data will help measure the long-term social and economic impact of the solar project on the community.

The SOLS Foundation has been actively supporting remote and low-income communities across Malaysia through its Kampung Solar Project, helping families significantly reduce energy expenses. The initiative is also part of FedEx’s global FedEx Cares program and supports the company’s Priority Earth goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations worldwide by 2040.
