Solar deal handshake energy storage partnership joint venture

Austin, Texas-based solar and battery manufacturer T1 Energy has signed an agreement to deliver 641 MW worth of solar modules to Clearway Energy Group.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Clearway is one of the largest renewable energy developers in the U.S., according to company officials. The agreement also aims to reinforce T1 Energy’s strategy of constructing a fully domestic solar manufacturing platform.

“We are pleased to be signing a strategic partnership with Clearway, a leading energy developer that is adding needed gigawatts to U.S. grids,” says Dan Barcelo, chairman and chief executive officer of T1 Energy. “Customers such as Clearway seeking high-domestic-content modules are building critical momentum for a ‘Made in America’ supply chain.”

The deal furthers T1 Energy’s goals of supporting growing demand for American-made renewable energy components, including solar panels and PV module parts.

Specifically, the agreement calls for T1 to supply solar cells made at its G2_Austin solar manufacturing facility. Clearway representatives say the new contract providers their company with ” a domestic source of high-performance, traceable solar equipment for future utility-scale projects.”

Moving upward toward vertical integration

The new deal is the next big step for T1 Energy, as it aims to establish a secure, vertically-integrated solar supply chain. At a time when project developers are seeking domestic equipment to skirt around FEOC restrictions, tariffs, and other industrial uncertainties, domestic products have become a top priority across the American solar industry, bringing about an era of change and a desire for product onshoring.

Through the new agreement and the combination of domestic cell production and U.S.-manufactured modules, T1 officials say the company expects to offer products containing over 60% domestic content by 2027. For Clearway, this strategy greatly bolsters the company’s renewable energy product pipeline, while also increasing its ratio of American-made equipment in its projects.

“Contracts with top-tier manufacturers like T1 help ensure that Clearway can deliver on our ambitious development pipeline with competitive and reliable projects,” says Frances Cook, VP of procurement at Clearway Energy. “With this deal, we are especially excited to bring domestic cells into future construction, generating American-made power with American-made parts.”

The contract “provides commercial validation” for T1 Energy’s wider manufacturing expansion strategy, according to company officials. The firm aims to become a major player in the U.S.’s domestic solar space, and has boasted one of the region’s largest solar manufacturing platforms since 2024.
