TurningPoint Energy third Delaware project

Denver-based solar developer TurningPoint Energy has cut the ribbon on the third of six planned community solar sites in Delaware, the company announced Sept. 30.

The 2.1 MW project is a piece of the company’s previously announced 30 MWdc portfolio in the First State, representatives say. Located near Sandhill Fields in Georgetown, Delaware, officials expect the site to generate about 5.6 GWh per year for the Delmarva Power regional grid.

“Delaware continues to face growing demand for reliable, locally generated energy,” says TPE president Salar Naini. “We’re proud to have developed the Georgetown project as part of a broader portfolio that expands community solar opportunities, strengthens the state’s energy infrastructure, and supports Delaware’s long-term renewable energy goals.”

By the numbers, the new facility features more than 5,600 solar panels across 17 fenced-in areas. Those panels will produce enough energy to offset greenhouse gas emissions of about 800 gasoline-powered cars every year.

Meeting statewide goals

This latest addition to new local generation capacity marks a “meaningful contribution,” not only to the state of Delaware’s solar generation capacity, but to reaching the First State’s renewable energy goals.

Right now, the state has goals of reaching 40% renewable energy by 2035 at the latest, according to TurningPoint Energy officials. This suite of jointly developed projects by TurningPoint and Nautilus Solar Energy currently make up a major piece of one of the state’s easiest paths to meeting that threshold. The first two projects in the six-site portfolio came online in June 2025 and July 2026, respectively.

“Delaware’s commitment to reliable and diverse energy sources requires bold investments in our generation capacity, and that’s why community solar projects like this are so important to our energy future,” says Delaware State Sen. Stephanie Hansen. “This project will serve hundreds of our neighbors in Georgetown and its surrounding communities, including those with low- or limited-incomes.

“As we continue to address energy demand in our State, projects like this will help lower energy costs for Delawareans and deliver clean energy to our grid.”

In addition to energy benefits, the company expects its six-project portfolio to deliver nearly $35 million in energy savings for the state’s residents and businesses once complete. TurningPoint and Nautilus have also committed a combined $240,000 through the portfolio to several Delawarean nonprofits focused on housing stability, youth development, and workforce readiness programs.
