Waaree Transpower, a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Ltd., has successfully completed the type testing of its 17.6 MVA five-winding Inverter Duty Transformer (IDT) at the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) in Bhopal, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen its transformer portfolio for renewable energy and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) applications.
The transformer successfully cleared critical Dynamic Short Circuit, Impulse and Temperature Rise Tests, demonstrating its performance and reliability for renewable power generation and grid-connected energy systems.
The successful testing enhances Waaree Transpower’s capabilities to supply specialised Inverter Duty Transformers for large-scale renewable energy projects. The company has also secured orders for more than 120 IDTs, ranging from 11 MVA to 20 MVA, for solar, wind and BESS applications.
Inverter Duty Transformers are an essential component of inverter-based power systems, enabling the integration of electricity generated through solar, wind and energy storage systems into the grid. With the growing deployment of renewable energy and BESS projects, demand for specialised transformer solutions is expected to increase.
Commenting on the development, Viren Doshi, Director, Waaree, said that the successful type testing validates the company’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities, while the strong order traction reflects growing market confidence in its IDT solutions.
The combination of successful type testing and more than 120 IDT orders strengthens Waaree Transpower’s position in the renewable energy and BESS segments and supports its strategy to expand its portfolio of transformer solutions for renewable energy and broader power infrastructure applications.
