Suez Canal Economic Zone, in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization, has launched the National Clean Hydrogen Program–Egypt to accelerate the country’s transition toward a competitive green hydrogen economy.

The initiative aims to strengthen Egypt’s readiness to attract green hydrogen investments by supporting project development, policy frameworks, and institutional capacity-building.

According to SCZONE, the program will focus on conducting pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for priority hydrogen projects, providing technical and policy support, and enhancing national capabilities to build a stronger clean hydrogen ecosystem.

A key component of the initiative includes the establishment of a Green Hydrogen Center of Excellence at the SCZONE headquarters in Ain Sokhna, aimed at advancing knowledge-sharing, technical expertise, and innovation in the hydrogen sector.

The National Clean Hydrogen Program forms part of the broader Global Clean Hydrogen Program, a multi-country initiative implemented by UNIDO and funded by the Global Environment Facility, covering 10 countries, with Egypt positioned as a key participant.

Implementation of the program will be carried out through a coordinated institutional framework involving national and international stakeholders focused on energy transition and industrial development.

To oversee execution, a steering committee has been established, bringing together representatives from SCZONE, UNIDO, the Ministry of Environment Egypt, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy Egypt, and the Ministry of Industry Egypt.

The committee will work in coordination with Egypt’s Supreme Council for Green Hydrogen to align the program with national clean energy priorities and monitor its implementation.
