Nouryon Convergent Energy and Power Morris Illinois

Specialty chemicals firm Nouryon is cutting into its overall power consumption, officials say, as the company has energized a 2 MW solar project at its Morris, Illinois facility.

Developed in conjunction New York City-based energy supplier Convergent Energy and Power, the site officially reached commercial operation Oct. 1, Nouryon says. The installation will supply electricity directly to Nouryon’s facility, advancing its plans to use more renewable and low-carbon energy options going forward.

In total, Nouryon representatives expect the system to generate about 3.4 GWh of electricity for the plant every year. That number amounts to eliminating about 1,152 metric tons of carbon emissions on an annual basis, and covering about 10% of the site’s yearly electrical needs.

“The energization of this project is an important milestone for both Convergent and Nouryon,” says Johannes Rittershausen, co-CEO of Convergent Energy and Power. “By bringing clean, locally generated solar power directly to Nouryon’s Morris facility, we are demonstrating how industrial companies can achieve meaningful sustainability progress while enhancing long-term energy certainty.”

The Morris facility produces ingredients used in a variety of consumer products, including cleaning, personal care, and crop protection applications.

Building a global renewable network

Company officials say this solar asset is the latest in a series of on-site renewable energy projects for Nouryon, but its first in the U.S. With recent installations at factories in Belgium, Singapore, and China, the international chemicals firm is making headway on its sustainability goals, representatives say.

A recent statement by Nouryon adds that in 2025, the firm got 54% of its electricity worldwide from renewable energy sources. Its sustainability goals have set a target to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 40% by 2030, from a 2019 baseline.

“Every project like Morris moves us closer to our goal of running more plants on electricity from renewable and low-carbon sources,” says Eduardo Nardinelli, SVP of South America and carbon business strategy at Nouryon. “It is a practical and responsible step toward achieving the greenhouse gas emission reduction target we have committed to for 2030 and beyond.”

Nouryon has further plans for more sustainable energy solutions at its plants in the near future, the company adds. As of October 2026, the firm has continued investment plans for upcoming energy projects in Houston and Fort Worth, Texas, as well as its Asa, Japan-based organic peroxide production facility.

“Nouryon is pleased to see this important renewable energy project operating at our Morris, Illinois facility,” Nardinelli adds. “We’re thrilled with this initiative. The onsite solar project supports our commitment to expanding our renewable energy footprint and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
