solar company acquisition

Commercial and community solar developer Standard Solar is making a move for the Pacific Northwest, as the company has purchased two solar projects in Washington from OneEnergy Renewables.

Financial details of the project have not been disclosed.

The two projects — Palouse Junction in Connell, Washington, and Cunningham in Othello, Washington — are both currently under construction. Once finished, the duo will provide a combined 15.79 MW of new ground-mounted solar capacity to the local grid in the state’s eastern reaches. OneEnergy officials estimate the projects will generate about 29 GWh of renewable energy in their first year of operation alone.

“Rural utilities are essential partners in expanding access to clean energy,” says Eric Partyka, director of business development for Standard Solar. “These projects are an important example of how local utilities can bring the benefits of renewable energy directly to the communities they serve.”

The acquisition is a reflection of Standard Solar’s current mission, officials say, which aims to continue growth in distributed generation and community-scale solar markets. The projects’ two offtakers, Franklin Public Utility District and Big Bend Electric Cooperative, both “demonstrate how local utilities are embracing renewable energy to strengthen their power supply, support long-term energy planning and deliver locally generated clean electricity to their communities.”

Combined with the two offtakers, Standard Solar hopes to highlight the role that rural area utilities can play in the U.S.’s transition to renewable energy.

Bolstering solar in the PNW

As of the most recent edition of the Solar Energy Industries Association’s (SEIA) ‘Solar State by State‘ map, Washington currently ranks 40th in solar capacity among all U.S. states. With the Evergreen State boasting just over 1 GW of total installation, the two new projects will do their part to bolster those numbers once online.

OneEnergy Renewables currently serves as both the developer and the EPC provider for both of these projects, which the firms expect will see completion in Q1 2027.

“We are excited to partner with Standard Solar on these Washington projects and to help deliver reliable, locally generated renewable energy to rural utility customers,” says Erin Lynch, senior manager of development at OneEnergy Renewables.

“Palouse Junction and Cunningham reflect the value of thoughtful solar development that aligns with local utility needs and supports Washington’s broader clean energy future.”

The two projects further add to Standard Solar’s growing portfolio of distributed energy resources across the whole of the U.S. The Rockville, Maryland-based company aims to leverage that portfolio to continue assisting developers, utilities, and community solar customers with long-term energy solutions.
