VSL PowerHive, the battery energy storage arm of Vikram Solar Ltd., has launched the P261, a 125 kW/261 kWh liquid-cooled battery energy storage system (BESS) for commercial and industrial (C&I) applications in India and international markets.

The company said the P261 is designed for applications including backup power, peak-load management, solar energy storage, diesel generator reduction, power quality and reliability, electric vehicle (EV) charging, and microgrids.

The P261 uses a single-cabinet design with liquid cooling to help maintain cell health and extend battery life, according to VSL PowerHive. An integrated energy management system provides real-time monitoring and remote diagnostics. Safety features include fire suppression and multiple layers of protection against overcharging, short circuits and thermal events.

VSL PowerHive said the system’s architecture allows for future capacity expansion and integrates solar, grid, storage and EV charging through a single interface.

The P261 incorporates a 261 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a nominal voltage of 832 V and 314 Ah cells. It is designed for on-grid and off-grid operation and has an operating temperature range of -30 C to 50 C. The system has an IP52S enclosure rating.

The company said the P261 can be used for peak-load management and demand-charge reduction, as well as solar energy shifting and backup power during grid outages. Other applications include reducing diesel generator use, supporting EV charging infrastructure, improving power quality, and deployment in microgrids and for grid support.

“India’s industrial and commercial sectors are ready for storage solutions that actually work for their needs, and the P261 answers that call,” said Arun Mittal, CEO of VSL PowerHive. “Bringing this to market as our first official product under PowerHive is a significant step, and there’s much more in the pipeline.”

“India’s energy transition is entering its most decisive phase, and storage will determine how fast and how far we go,” said Gyanesh Chaudhary, chairman and managing director of Vikram Solar. “With the P261, PowerHive moves from concept to commercial reality, built on the same manufacturing discipline and quality rigour that have defined Vikram Solar’s journey in solar.”

Chaudhary said the launch marks the foundation of a business that the company intends to scale into a storage solutions provider serving India and international markets.
